Shan - E - Roti stands out as a Punjabi and Indian restaurant located right off the beaten path in Okemah, Oklahoma. Nestled in a truck stop setting at 1001 S Woody Guthrie St, it caters to travelers, local workers, and food enthusiasts alike looking for a genuine taste of India without leaving middle America.

The atmosphere mirrors the straightforward, no-frills charm of a roadside dhaba—family-owned, warmly run, and focused squarely on the food and hospitality. Inside, you’ll find a casual, welcoming environment where the aroma of spices mingles with the hum of conversation and occasional truck stop bustle. Though some renovation work is ongoing, this doesn’t detract from the experience; if anything, it feels like a local spot in progress, serving authentic meals to those who appreciate homestyle Indian flavors.

The menu offers hearty portions of classic Punjabi dishes that lean into rich, creamy textures and bold spice blends. Butter chicken, served in both 16oz and 24oz sizes, is a highlight—marinated pieces bathed in a velvety tomato-butter sauce that’s popular among first-time visitors and regulars. You can also find familiar staples like chole bhature, paneer kadhai, palak paneer, and fish pakora, crafted in the traditional manner that recalls street food from India’s roadside eateries. Sides like boondi raita add a cooling contrast to the spicy main dishes.

This is the kind of place where portions are generous enough to share, making it an inviting option for families or groups wanting to sample multiple dishes and get a full sense of the regional flavors. It also pays attention to accessibility for different diets, offering vegan choice options that keep it open to a diverse crowd.

Shan - E - Roti works best for those who seek an authentic Indian dining experience without pretension, especially travelers passing through or locals who know their dhaba-style food. The service is noted for its kindness and helpfulness, usually ready to guide guests unfamiliar with Indian cuisine through the menu. Visiting around lunchtime or early evening means catching the place at a comfortable pace, even if small wait times are possible due to the popularity of the food.

Overall, this spot is less about trendy dining and more about satisfying, familiar flavors served in a hardworking, community-centric environment. If you’re curious about Indian food that feels like it’s been prepared by hands that know the traditions well, Shan - E - Roti delivers an approachable and unpretentious way to explore Punjabi staples right in Oklahoma.

This cute place was so lovely. This was my first time coming here, and the service is wonderful. The lady in red was so helpful to show us many options we had, and we had decided on the butter chicken. The dish was very delicious. It was rich, flavorful, and came with some tasty naan. Please stop by and try this place! They also serve vegan options as well. 10/10!

If you know what an Indian Dhaba style restaurant food is, then this is the place for you. Fresh homemade dhaba style food. Food felt like we were in India ???????? - absolute authentic. Family owned & operated. Chole Bhature (puri) was just amazing. The bhatura was soft as a cotton. Good Paneer Kadhai & Palak Paneer. Dont mind their inprocess renovation, visit for the good food.

Loved the Kadhai chicken and rice. Reminded me of India . Had tea along with it while partner had roti and egg fry which was good too.

If you don't know about middle-America Indian truck stop food, then you're leading an empty life! And Shan-E-Roti is the epitome of truck stop Indian perfection! GIANT portion sizes, perfectly spiced good, kind service (they have us a free naan because we had to wait 5 minutes for our food!), and affordable prices. One piece of man could feed 4 people! The Paratha was just out of this world! I strongly suggest you do NOT miss the gulab jamun that's in the cooler case. It's not your typical presentation but man was it delicious! Oh and the CHAI!!! Sheer perfection! Find a reason to stop in Okemah and visit Woody Guthrie Parkway so you can eat here! You won't be disappointed!!!

While traveling we prefer to eat at local restaurants. Our family had never tried Indian food before. Shan-E-Roti did not disappoint. We asked our server to suggest milder dishes that would not be too spicy for our very American palates. We got four different dishes and passed them around. The look and smell of the dishes were very appetizing. It was far more than we could eat. The lentils, chicken curry, flatbread, and other things that we tried were very good. Some of the dishes were fairly spicy for us, but not too much so. Everything was very flavorful. Our first taste of Indian food was a great experience.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authentic Flavor at a Truck Stop — Hidden Gem! I ordered the Butter Chicken (16oz), Chicken Tikka Masala (16oz, hot spice level), and 2 garlic naan, and let me just say—no regrets at all! The food was absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavor. I’ve never been to India, but based on my experiences with Indian restaurants across the U.S., this definitely tasted authentic and not Americanized. You’ll definitely get the bang for your buck The extra spicy Chicken Tikka Masala was to die for! If you can handle serious heat, go for it—but if not, maybe choose a milder spice level because their “hot” really means hot! I will say that rice did not come with it as I’m accustomed to getting when I order Chicken Tikka Masala from other establishments. Which wasn’t an issue because thankfully I ordered Garlic Naan with mines and I ended up cooking Basmati Rice when I got home to eat with it. Keep in mind, this is located at a truck stop, not a dine-in restaurant, so plan to take your food to go. It’s a family-owned business, and the owners were incredibly kind and friendly. The husband who helped me during pickup was super helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend giving this spot a try—you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food was not only delicious but also reminiscent of home-cooked meals. The owner's kind demeanor made me feel incredibly welcomed. What's more, the prices were surprisingly affordable. For just $22, I enjoyed a hearty meal of chicken masala, four roti, chai, raita, and onion salad. It's a fantastic value for such flavorful dishes. I highly recommend this spot for its delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and great prices. They have truck parking also. Date 8/21/25 Ordered chicken handi, roti, veggies biryani, and delicious chai. Everything was awesome . The owner, as usual behavior was great. I will keep coming here for home style food . 5 out of 5

Decided to give the place a try. Butter chicken with garlic Nan. One of the better places. Brought a spoon out to see if I wanted it more spicy. (Absolutely I do) lol Would definitely recommend trying it! Btw. The nan was over a foot long
